If anyone needs an explanation to my recently badder-than-usual mood, here it is. So much has happened this week, but one thing has ruined everything to a greater degree than all the rest, especially since everything else has been resolved. My lost camera! People who know me, know that my camera's super sentimental to me, and that I'm super attached to it. So you'll understand why this loss has affected me so.
Here's what happened - I lent it to one of my plays to take photos for our booklet (which so needs to be rushed) and simply put, they lost it! I was like wth, why would someone just leave a camera around and not take it! Everyone's been telling me how irresponsible they are for losing something as valuable as a camera, but I know everyone in Drama's under quite a lot of stress too. And I should have been there to take care of it myself. Sigh, I just wish this hadn't happened. I'm hoping it'll come back to me soon, to save me all the pain and worry.
It's a Canon Digital Ixus 75, and I bought it myself with my own cash - $500. It's new, and although it's not as good as the Photog Soc's cameras or DSLRs or whatever, it's mine and I want it back! I paid for it myself, and it's been to KL with me already, and I want it back for V.Actors Presents and the Beijing trip. I don't want a new camera, I want this one back! And that's one of the reasons why I've been in a rather bad mood since yesterday. It's been on my mind all day and night and day long.
Sigh.
Precious things have a way of coming back to you! :)

In a world so confusing, so complex, so cold, there are always a few people who put your life into optimistic perspective. When everything seems to be falling apart, someone is there to hold you, to catch you when you fall. Someone is always there to make your day, to make you that much happier :) I am thankful for these people in my life! Yay :)

I'm sorry I haven't been thankful enough for all the blessings You have given me in my life. Especially suffering and dying for me. Thank You for opening my eyes to the beauty of the world, and the wonderful life you have laid upon me.
"Lord You seem so far away A million miles or more it feels today And though I haven't lost my faith I must confess right now That it's hard for me to pray But I don't know what to say And I don't know where to start But as You give the grace With all that's in my heart
I will sing I will praise Even in my darkest hour Through the sorrow and the pain I will sing I will praise Lift my hands to honor You Because Your Word is true I will sing
Lord it's hard for me to see All the thoughts and plans You have for me But I will put my trust in You Knowing that You died to set me free But I don't know what to say And I don't know where to start But as You give grace With all that's in my heart
I will sing I will praise Even in my darkest hour Through the sorrow and the pain I will sing I will praise Lift my hands to honor You Because Your Word is true I will sing"

Today was a great day! :) Feeling Fab and Arts Day!
I went to the photography course by Canon with Qianyu and Beatrice. They thought us about aperture and shutter speed and ISO and let us loose upon the garden. It's nice when you have time to go look around it, flowers and all. We took jumpshots and camwhored on the swing and went around macroing flowers and ants and guppies! Then it was Arts Day.
I'm sorry I hit Seet's car with the bowler hat! Oops. My day was really made with Turkish ice cream from wing :) and Cornetto from puen :) Thanks! Then I went around with wing and watched random stuff. We were probably the first audience to the card magician, who became hugely popular after that. And the Nokia Music Mobile! Quite cool to have 987 in our school. I spent the afternoon talking to friends in the canteen. Yay :)
Tomorrow will be better!

This is the long, hard road you've chosen. But there's no turning back, only moving on. And everybody moves on :)
But everything reminds me of you

A Walk Alone
Can't you see in your heart
You're slowly losing me A little more each day
You left me in the cold
To walk the streets alone
With no hand to hold
The city seems so lonely
Watching the sun set
With no one by my side
I hope you still know
Not a day goes by
That I don't think of you

Surreality
We lead surreal lives Happiness is bought Contentment is constructed
We bend and/or break Under the pressure Of things to come
We go around in circles Chasing our tails Never reaching the end
I woke up in the morning and went to look out at the city. We were staying just beside the monorail line, and the streetlamps still tinted the streets orange. After yet another buffet breakfast, we went to KLPAC at Sentul Park again. It's an example of brownfield development right in the middle of the inner city. There are cool wire benches! :) We took jumpshots on the wonderfully green grass!
Then we rode out of KL to Putrajaya, to visit The Corporation itself. The arch towered over us as we entered. There are offices hanging in midair, quite cool! We went into a meeting room and were briefed on Putrajaya and its development. Then this really nice grandfatherly guy took us on a bus tour in our own bus around Putrajaya, to see the different precincts. The best part was getting out on a hill, and looking straight down at the boulevard cutting through the city. Yay! :)
Then it was all the way home! Lunch was late, at Malacca, and I shared KFC stuff with wing on the bus, and a linner/dunch was at Yong Peng. Mmm. crispy chocolate pancakes! :) And then it was back home.

Day 3 In Kuala Lumpur
I woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the city :) After breakfast, the teachers brought us on a walk through the inner city, Sentul, where our hotel's located. It stood in stark contrast to the glint and glam of Putrajaya and some parts of KL. Rust, dirt, grime, stench, yet with the community spirit, the sort of aura that tells you this is their home. It was quite an experience. The road less traveled by tourists who seek the good life in a foreign city.
Lunch was at a German restaurant, one of the owners is Mr Tan's wife's uncle. Huge servings, the food was good, but really huge servings. The cheesecake is niceee!! Oh, that was also the place that I realised Ms Wu pangsehed us! But now Mr Najib and her denies that she ever went on the trip! AHH. I'm confuzzled. Haha. After a short stop by a cocoa boutique, we headed for the one destination in KL I've always been looking forward to - The Towers.
As I have recounted before, I made one trip to KL in 2005 just to go up The Towers, but it was closed and now, I returned with a sure way to go up. But it was kinda disappointing. From the Bridge, the view's less spectacular than from KL Tower. Nonetheless, I was happy just to go up and camwhore for 10minutes :) And I could also see the sprawl of the city into the mountains - quite nice :) We went down for some fieldwork, asking people what they thought of KLCC and then it was SHOPPING TIME.
I din't do much shopping, just followed wing around. Haha but dinner was nice because I had yet another mozza burger and waffle and curly fries! :) Then there was shopping at Bukit Bintang. Bukit Bintang can be compared to our Orchard Road, but I think it's much less glam. Lots of food though! Then we headed to our hotel for the night, a new hotel with quite a modern, cleancut design in the middle of the city at Bukit Bintang - Allson Genesis, Cititel, Alpha Genesis - many names for one place. The rooms were much nicer than the Grand Pacific. The toilets were a cool design, one door that covers either the bathroom or the toilet.
While everyone was sleeping or partying, the teachers took three of us H3 students out for supper at the old retail area of KL in Bukit Bintang. Apparently, all retail in KL used to be in pasar malam type of places. The sort of old world charm. There was satay and drinks and we discussed our H3s and careers. Haha quite nice, but kinda tired. On the way back, Mr Tan koped some opposition parties posters. His are in near mint condition, fresh from the street! I'm glad to say I'm probably the only student who has a poster from the General Elections of 2008. But mine's of this old Malay lady, and it's quite torn. Ah well.
I slept late, just as we all do on the last nights of trips.

Day 2 Putrajaya to Kuala Lumpur
We woke up to the classic Malaysian big buffet breakfast! One of those wonderful ways to wake up :) A hot shower, and a Malaysian hotel breakfast. We took a ride through Putrajaya to see what it looks like in the daytime, and more specifically, on election day! Full of party flags, posters and banners! We stopped at a residential precinct near the urban fringe, and crowded around a rusted car - Mr Najib's old car, or so he claims.
Then we crossed some bridges to the city centre, and stopped at the city square! There's the Prime Minister's office here, the mosque, and a sort of monument of flags that looks like stuff from the sky. We went around casually interviewing people about their opinions of Putrajaya. Then I went down to the waterfront and took in the view of the lake. The land's so clean and green, the city's so sanitised! And I took S41 class photo with Ms Wu and Freddie! hahaha.
There was lunch and shopping at Alamanda, the only mall in Putrajaya. How can people live in a city with ONE shopping mall?! What the hell. But anyway, there's A&W there, and seeing how we haven't seen A&W for years, most of us had lunch there. Waffles!!! And I had this mozza burger which is really really good. I'm missing it right now! Mm..
After our Alamanda escapades, We went back to KLIA to take the KLIA express train to KL! It was one of the nicest parts of the whole trip, a half-hour train ride, smooth, fast, quiet. We saw Putrajaya on the way, and some of the suburbs of KL, and stopped at the Sentral station. You could not miss that it was election day, with huge banners all around, shouting security, peace, prosperity.
Dinner was at a Japanese restaurant at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. The food was quite good, I had unagi, the servings were large, but dinner was just too early. Instead, we went around taking photos at the pretty lake and the park. The KLPAC building itself has unique aesthetics - industrialist but green - pipes and brick walls and concrete with metal showing, but with plants and trees in the building, and airy :) We watched Sherlock Holmes put up by the University of Malaya, which wasn't very good. But funny cos the guy (read: guy) went around getting people to touch his fake boobs! Haha Freddie was the first to! WOO.
The hotel that night was quite disappointing. There was a makeshift reception, the rooms were small, with two beds, a tv, a shower and toilet. Just that. It's right in the middle of Sentul, the inner city. But my room had a view of the twin towers, and I drifted to sleep amidst the noises of the parties of celebration after the election results started coming up, and the vehicles of the streets right below.

I'm back! Firstly, I got a D in Chinese A's and a pass in oral. Which is ok I guess - a bit disappointed, but I'm not going to retake, because it's Chinese. I hope my PW results are better! (I actually expect A's for my wonderful group!) After getting the results, we immediately set off for MALAYSIA!

Day 1 Singapore to Putrajaya
Despite the search for our friendly neighbourhood guy Mas Selamat (which continues today), immigration was really smooth, partly due to the fact that we arrived at the causeway after the rush hour (presumably, there is one) and the immigration building was super empty! So we din't end up in a 26 hour wait, but we got through within an hour!
We stopped over at Yong Peng for lunch, and the interchange now have this stall which sells hot plate noodles! You actually see the blue flames all around the hot plates! Really cool haha! Then we played this game about guessing the song as the teachers read out lyrics. A whole medley of boyband and 90s classics! :) My favourite!
We stopped at KLIA for dinner. I haven't been there in really long, and this time, as I returned more than just a kid, I was disappointed with what is supposedly one of the world's best airports. The terminal is big, but not as grand or as nicely decored as Singapore's, the lighting sucks, and there's just a handful of fast food outlets and some small shops, which cannot compare to Terminal 1 or 2 or 3 of our beloved Changi, and much less so to the retail paradise of Hong Kong's!
I had dinner with Wing, Jinghan and Leon at BK, and I was served by this super blur guy who took SUPER LONG! Grr. Everyone who was served by him was blackfaced when they left the counter haha! And he gave us many many sauce dishes when he was supposed to give me 2. In the end, our table had 15! Killing the environment! :(
Then we took a ride through Putrajaya at night. I was speechless, astounded by the architecture and urban design of the whole place. It's glam to the max! Cool traffic lights, cool streetlamps, and the most surreal nighttime experience I've ever had - walking down the boulevard in the middle of the night. The whole city was quiet - lit, but abandoned. Like a huge toy setup (a toy costing billions) or a huge film set. The perfect place to make a boyband video about loneliness and pain amidst the towering buildings of a lonely city. HAHA
The boulevard led to the Prime Minister's office from the Corporation. Wide, and 4.2 km long. Most surreal, because it seemed right out of 1984. Like someplace where you'd watch rows upon rows of soldiers march down to their leader's palace (and indeed, they do, during the parades) woooah. Beautiful, futuristic design, but like a ghost city. Like some big city abandoned because of a pandemic, or its inhabitants abducted by aliens in the middle of the night. Freaky, surreal, but most wonderfully amazing. Everything's clean and shiny and beautiful. I like it that way :)
Our hotel was a business resort. Nice, big rooms. Quite the luxury :) I fell asleep dreaming of the shiny, shiny city.

Well then, the Common Tests are over, and there's so much more looming up ahead, but who cares when you'll be in another country for 4 days! I'm off to KUALA LUMPUR and PUTRAJAYA tomorrow to get hosed down by water cannons, immerse myself in the riots, and experience the city for myself! Along with my fellow Geography Rockers! :) SEE YOU SUCKERS!! Have fun in politically apathetic Singapore (:
