It's one week away from enlistment and the dread is finally starting to set in. Not the "oh I think this should be later" feeling but the helpless "Rarr it's coming and I can't do anything about it" one. Ah well. In my terms, that means there's no point worrying. On this note, I shall list out some random stuff I believe in, so that after 1 year and 10 months spent mostly away from normal Singaporean civilians, I'll still be able to find what makes me me and remember who I really am inside, beyond the botak head and ripplings muscles (I hope HAHAHA)

So, here, I set out the cornerstones of Markism!

The most important thing in life: happiness! Happiness is not derived totally from money, achievement, status, recognition, pleasure and such, but also from kindness, optimism, contentment and other elusive sources. Being happy is as important as spreading the joy and love to the people around you, and smiling makes everyone happy, not just you. Happiness is hard to achieve and it's crucial to remember that happy people often face difficult, sad times, and vice versa.

This leads to a second understanding: that life is a rollercoaster of ups and downs. We have to accept this before we can lead a good life. Happy lives are interspersed with bumps and falls, but we should always get up with a smile and move on. More than that, we should aim to make a difference - so that others can get up from their falls too. We should make a difference to the people around us, the world, and no matter how small a difference it is, as long as it is good, it's still a difference.

The third understanding is that in life, as a general rule, everything should be balanced. For example, if life persistently gave us good times, the happiness or pleasure derived from them would be diluted. Life should strike a balance: between work and play, happiness and sadness, ups and downs, and so on. In that sense, we should not just live our lives in a single place, but we should roam free - travel! And more than that, we should take on new pespectives, worldviews, in order to understand our fellow travellers on this journey of life. Explore and be curious, so that our minds never grow stagnant.

Beyond these three encompassing ideas lie small things that life much more worth living, the world a more bearable and happier place and the people around us more human. They are simple, yet easily overlooked and forgotten, things like: treasure your true friendships, remember the happy times, make the most out of your time, share about yourself with others.

For now, this is enough (:

When you ask yourself what went wrong. To live your life so much for others, you begin to lose yourself. To wonder each day if it's worth making that call, sending that message, starting that conversation. To see the photos fade away - not colours, or images, but memories and meaning. To ask yourself if your friends think about you at all. And most of all, the hardest, the most painful and hurting, to live your life with so many friendships, with so few of them being treasured as much as you do.

Because just like love, you can't force friendships.
Because just like love, you can't force someone to be close to you.
Because just like love, you can't force friendships to be true.
Because just like love, friendships can hurt as well.

That's why I'm glad to have you, because you're more than a friend can ever be (:

OMG OMG OMG MELBOURNE IS SO NICE! I'll blog more when my life and social life are set in place. Already, I have to go out! For k-box! WOOO! (: But anyway, the top 5 things I did in Melb!

5. Visiting old family friends! There's nothing like a reunion in a country far away from home! Seeing old faces which have now etched new likenesses in my memory, eating great homecooked food! Heartwarming!

4. Taking the tram around the city! The city is walkable, but the city circle tram is fun and free! Any liveable city should have a tram! It's a blast from the past for public transportation and ignites a sense of nostalgia even in those too young to remember the time of trams, like me! So fun!

3. Picking strawberries from an organic farm called Sunny Ridge! Which part of that doesn't sound nice? You don't get much stress picking strawberries from rows and rows of plants. Fresh, sweet strawberries from the countryside! Gosh!

2. Watching the Penguin Parade! This is when the smallest penguins in the world (Yes, they are cute, too cute!) swim up to the shore and waddle to their burrows/holes/homes! SOOOO CUTEEE!! Omg omg omg! And they go in groups and wait for everyone to arrive and go out to sea to get those stuck behind! So cute!

1. SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING! I've never shopped so much in such a short time before these few weeks! Prom shopping and Melbourne shopping sprees are THE BEST! Melbourne is damn good for shopping! I bought so many clothes! They even have a whole shopping centre of Direct Factory Outlets, the size of Tampines Mall and Century Square put together!

Woohoo Melbourne rocks!

PROM PROM PROM!!!

Omg I'm finally home! Gosh. I haven't been home in 2 days for more than an hour each time. Breakfast at Botanic Gardens with the guys! Vegas 2008! (PROMMM!!) Victoria's Secret! (POSTPROMMM!!) Sleepover! And sending off Erik at the Airport with the guys and roaming through Geylang for dimsum and the sights and sounds! Woohoo! Non stop fun! FUN FUN FUN!! Okay, since my Airforce interview is early tomorrow, I better sleep early! I feel like I've totally lost track of time! Anyway, I took many many many photos and there was no ugly prom smile this time! *proud of myself* Postprom was fun! Drinks and dancing :) Yay! Happy happy happy! And Geylang was interesting haha!

Thank you to all my friends who've made being in VJC these 4 years such a wonderful time with so many beautiful memories :) I love all the photos we took and I'll cherish this night for a long long long time to come! :) Love all of you :)

More updates and photos tomorrow! Time to sleep!

It was in this moment that he finally closed his eyes, and saw all the memories fly by through time. He felt the tingle of snow on his skin; the crisp, burning dryness of the air. The sounds of the city enveloped him, but he could not drown out all the emotions flowing through his soul. He stood there, for a drawn moment - he knew where he was, but not where he would be. And when he opened his eyes, as the blindness of light faded through the mist, he saw that she was gone.
